Texas Motor Speedway - Post-Race Review
Joey Gase #DonateLifeTexas Mission a Huge Success
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dallas-Fort Worth, TX (November 6, 2017) – Joey Gase has partnered with Donate Life Texas since 2015 in an effort to increase organ and tissue donation awareness. As the son of an organ and tissue donor and as a professional athlete, Gase has an ability to speak about the importance of registration in a personally compelling way to race fans in Texas and beyond.
“For the more than 120,000 people currently awaiting an organ transplant in the U.S., this weekend’s race was about more than to roar of the engines, it’s about hope,” says Suzy Miller, Executive Director of Donate Life Texas. “Each NASCAR fan inspired by Joey and the call to Donate Life brings us one step closer to a day when no one must wait for the transplant they need to survive.”
The Donate Life Texas #7 Monster Energy Cup series car carried the names and faces of 21 DLT Honorees – people whose lives have been personally touched by donation. During the car’s unveiling event, each Honorees also applied painted handprints to the hood and trunk of the car as part of what has become a Gase tradition called “Handprints of Hope.”
One Honoree, Aaron Singleton of Joshua, Texas, was only 15 when he passed away and became an organ and tissue donor in 2016. Just days shy of the one-year anniversary of Aaron’s passing, Joey addressed the entire Joshua High School student body to celebrate the family’s decision to donate, to share his own story and to encourage students to join the Donate Life Texas donor registry.
About Donate Life Texas
The Donate Life Texas organ, eye and tissue donor registry started in 2006 and now has almost 10 million registrants, making it the country’s second largest donor registry and among the fastest growing. The registry is supported by all three Texas organ procurement organizations, LifeGift, Southwest Transplant Alliance and Texas Organ Sharing Alliance as well as the 13 eye and tissue banks serving the state.
Signing up is fast and easy at www.DonateLifeTexas.org/Gase and provides a way for individuals to make their decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor known. It also provides legal consent for donation after death, which removes the burden of decision-making from the family during an already difficult time.
Donate Life Texas is part of the Donate Life America not-for-profit alliance of national organizations and local partners across the United States, serving as a national voice and inspiring all people to save and enhance lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.
